Super Lube Celebrates 5th Pink Caps for Cancer Campaign

This October marked our 5th year running the Pink Caps For Cancer campaign at Super Lube. We are tremendously proud of our part in helping to "Put A Cap On Breast Cancer " in our province. In that time, we have given out thousands of pink tire caps and countless other pink accessories as Manitobans have generously donated towards a cause that is near and dear to all of us. Since we started the campaign in 2017, we have exceeded the previous October’s donations every year!

While 2020 was defined by a global health crisis and filled with uncertainty and grueling economic hardship, Manitobans continued to show their hearts, surpassing our previous year by $20 incredible dollars to reach $15,375. Twenty Loonies have never meant more. They symbolize the enduring desire of Manitobans to look past their own hardships and meet the needs of friends, family, neighbors and total strangers.

We are proud to announce that this years Pink Caps for Cancer Campaign continued that trend, raising $15,935 over the month of October, which is essentially double the $8000 raised in our first campaign five years ago. Thank you for being part of this tremendous momentum!

Overall, these gifts of love have amounted to $68,620! The best part is that 100% of these donations has gone directly to CancerCare Manitoba Foundation to support screening programs.

Cancer screening is for people who have no signs or symptoms of cancer. It can prevent some cancers by finding and treating changes before they develop into cancer and can help find cancers early when treatments may work better. Screening saves lives. - CancerCare Manitoba Foundation.

Breast cancer continues to be the number one cancer diagnosed in women in Canada. 27,400 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer, representing 25% of all new cancer cases in women this year. Chances are it has already affected you or someone you love. The great news is that the number of deaths from breast cancer has dropped by nearly half since it peaked in 1986. This is due in large part to increases in public awareness and the availability of screening programs.

As we look ahead to the rest of this year and into 2022, the need for screening programs has never been higher. According to the CDC, in 2020 an estimated 41% of American adults reported delaying or cancelling routine medical appointments and checkups due to issues related to Covid-19. Overburdened and understaffed clinics and hospitals, fewer in-person appointments, stay at home/isolation orders, lack of childcare, and a sense of reluctance or fear to head to clinics were all issues that kept people from important meetings with their health care providers. Now more than ever, is the time to return to these crucial proactive measures. Your donation towards these efforts can and will save lives!

Whether it’s the pink caps on your tires, or a pink toque on your head, wearing your pink accessories proudly and boldly might be the one thing that reminds someone else to make that crucial screening appointment. Awareness saves lives

If you have been part of our Pink Caps fundraising efforts these past five years, we thank you! More importantly, mothers, grandmothers, wives, partners, sisters, nieces, aunts, and daughters across the province thank you for your life saving generosity. We invite you to spread the news and participate again next October at any of our five Winnipeg Locations.

“At Super Auto Centres our customers come to us for help maintaining their car. This puts us in a great position to help raise awareness and funds for important causes. We think it’s the responsibility of every Winnipeg business to help the community we serve. We are enormously proud to be a part of Pink Caps for Cancer and partnering with CancerCare Manitoba Foundation.” – Jim Brousseau, Founder & CEO
